While most people diet to lose weight, there are those who must control their food intake in order to gain it. It is possible to gain weight by eating junk food, however, there is a big difference between good fatty foods and bad ones. Eating the right kind of high calorie food can both help you gain the weight you need as well as stay healthy. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Oils

Not all oils are artery clogging. In fact, olive oil is actually good for your heart. Use olive oil when cooking on the stove, and canola oil for baking. Avoid butter, shortening or margarine which are high in saturated and trans fats.
Nuts

Nuts are full of heart-healthy fat with the added benefit of zinc, vitamin E and fiber. Crushed nuts can be used as a substitute for bread crumbs in many recipes.
Fish

Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in fish and are important in a healthy diet. The human body cannot produce its own omega-3 fatty acids, so fish is an excellent source of this nutrient. Fish also contain protein, which is essential for growth and development. Although all kinds of fish have the same nutrients, some fish, like halibut, are leaner than others, such as salmon, tuna and sardines.
Avocados

Avocados are very high in fat, earning them the nickname "butter pear." The calorie content of an avocado is the equivalent of a quarter pound hamburger. However, the fats in avocados are monounsaturated, so while they are high in calories their consumption is good for lowering cholesterol.
