How to Convert Grams Into Calories

Counting calories to lose weight can be a confusing process if you don't have calorie counting software to help you out. Maybe you have a set amount of calories you're allowed to eat per day or you want to only eat a certain amount of carbohydrates or fat grams per day. This article will greatly simply the process of converting calories to grams and vice versa for your calorie counting needs.

Counting calories for losing weight starts and ends with 4-4-8.

    2

    **Counting calories is easy**

It's simple math so don't let it scare you at all. 4-4-8:

**Convert grams to calories for proteins and carbohydrates**

You're probably wondering what I mean by 4-4-8 so here it is in a nutshell.

-For proteins and carbohydrates, 4 calories equals 1 gram. So for example, if you want to eat some yogurt and it has 20 grams of carbohydrates and you want to convert those 20 grams to calories, you'd simply multiply 20X4. This means that the yogurt has 80 calories in carbohydrates. Same equation can be used for protein since 1 gram of protein equals 4 calories.

    **Convert fat grams to calories**

Fats are the oddball in converting calories. 1 gram of fat equals 8 calories. The reason being is that it takes more energy to burn 1 gram of fat than it takes to burn 1 gram of protein or carbohydrates. Calories are energy. So for example:
-If you have a slice of cheese with states that it has 7 grams of fat, to convert the 7 grams of fat to calories, multiply 7X8 which equals 56. That means there are 56 calories of fat in that slice of cheese.
