How to Avoid Foods That Trigger Eczema

Studies show that 5 percent of children and adults suffer from eczema, which typically appears first in infancy. It is common for eczema affects people that have a family history of allergies, although the cause is unknown. Food is one of the many things that can trigger eczema outbreaks. Avoid these foods to reduce the severity and frequency.

Instructions

    1

Keep a diary for about six weeks or more and record all meals and snacks eaten and your reactions to these foods. This will give you valuable information to help your doctor and dietitian determine if you do in fact have food allergies related to eczema.

    2

Note all possible food related symptoms. If itching and scratching worsens within two to three hours after eating, record the information in your diary and watch for the same reaction to this food next time you eat it. If your reaction is the same or similar mark this as a trigger food.

    3

Know that common reactions to trigger foods are itchy eyes, sneezing, wheezing vomiting and swelling, irritation and redness around the mouth.

    4

Be aware that delayed food sensitivity occurs in some of these people within a 24-hour period. Delayed symptoms are the same but they do include diarrhea.

    5

Pay special attention to milk, eggs, wheat, fish, peanuts, seafood, fruit with seeds and soy products. These are some of the more common food triggers.

    6

Confirm your food sensitivity diagnosis with your doctor or a dietitian. Eliminating these foods does not cure this disease but it will cut down on the severity of the eczema outbreaks.
