What Is General Diet?

What Is General Diet?

According to E-Health-Fitness.com, a general diet is the food and beverages that you consume each day. Diet does not have to mean a special way of eating, such as to lose weight, though it is often represented as such.

Components

The components of your diet are the types of food you should consume. These are grains, fruits and vegetables, and protein sources. They also include oils and milk products or their equivalents, soy and rice milk.

Number of Servings

The general guidelines for the number of daily servings everyone should consume for a proper diet include two to three servings from both the dairy and protein groups. You should consume two to four servings of vegetables and three to five of fruits. Grains require the largest number of servings, from six to 11, and other foods should be eaten in moderation.

Serving Sizes

What a serving size is depends on different factors. Age and sex are two such factors, as is the activity level of each individual. A small child does not need the same size of servings in her diet as her mother, and a teenage girl does not have to consume as much as her father.
