Ready-to-Eat Foods After Having a Baby

Ready-to-Eat Foods After Having a Baby

After having a new baby, there can be countless things to think about. Making sure the nursery is in order and comfortable for the newborn, getting the baby dressed, fed, bathed and changed. But one regular, time-consuming responsibility can fly below the radar --- making meals for dinner. As a result, many expectant mothers, or their loved ones, can prepare several meals before the baby is delivered that can be frozen and simply reheated for dinner. That planning ahead can free up time to attend to the newborn and reduce the stress for the new parents.

Soups

Several types of soup can be easily prepared beforehand, and then frozen. After popping those frozen soups in the microwave for several minutes, the soup will be ready to eat, just as if it had just been made. While some soups may be a little light, heartier soups like chili or split pea soup also freeze well, and are hearty enough to fill hungry stomachs for a meal. Also, stews can be frozen and reheated for a satisfying meal.

Casseroles

A casserole is a common food that can be prepared beforehand and then reheated and served. The food is self-contained in a single dish, making for easy reheating, and most casseroles contain a variety of food items, meaning the meal will not leave gaps in a person's diet. Along similar lines, pasta dishes such as lasagna can also be made beforehand, frozen, and then reheated for a satisfying meal prepared in short order.

Breakfast foods

Obviously, the simple breakfast staples, such as cereal and toast, are meals that can be quickly prepared for breakfast, but more substantial breakfast items that typically require multiple steps also can be prepared and frozen. Breakfast foods such as waffles and pancakes usually require a dedicated morning in the kitchen, but both can be frozen and reheated fairly easily. In fact, those more substantial foods can even be served for a dinner meal as a way to get a change of pace later in the day.

Desserts

There are several ready-to-eat desserts that can come in handy after having a child. Ice cream, pudding, and cookies can all be store-bought and are ready to eat, or similarly, baked goods such as brownies or even cakes can be made before a child is delivered and will be good to eat afterwards. And, after all the stresses of dealing with a newborn child, a little something sweet might be the treat a new parent needs.
